Vanessa Jones

Vanessa was born in Lubbock, TX & raised in Temple, TX. She moved to the Dallas area in 2006. She played basketball and attended Flower Mound Marcus HS from 2010-2014. She was a four year varsity starter and received numerous awards from the district throughout her tenure. Freshman season, she earned Newcomer of the Year honors and was 1st Team All District. Sophomore season, she was the district’s Defensive Player of the Year and 1st Team All District. Junior season, she was the 2013 District 5-5A Offensive Player of the Year and 1st Team All District. Senior year, she was 1st Team All District, leading the district in three pointers made. During her HS AAU season, her AAU squad (North Texas Shockers) were 2012 National Champions.

Vanessa went on to play basketball for two years at San Jacinto College in Houston. Her freshman year, she averaged 10.9 points a game and led the NJCAA in assist to turnover ratio. Her sophomore year, she was the team’s leading scorer, averaging 13.9 points a game and led the NJCAA in FT percentage at 95.9%. It was then that she was introduced to coaching. Coaching youth sports at the YMCA and assistant coaching Higher Goals teams with her father in the summer. Vanessa finished her collegiate basketball career at Angelo State University and officially began head coaching AAU basketball in 2017. Initially coaching for Texas Express, Vanessa came over to HG in 2018. She’s coached both boys & girls youth basketball at Higher Goals ever since.

levels (elementary, middle school, high school and collegiate).  In 2020, she began her Girls’ Varsity Head Coach position at Christian Life Preparatory School. Following CLPS, she began her work as a recruiting analyst for Full Throttle Basketball in 2021. She traveled throughout the metroplex, researching players, writing articles and interviewing HS standout players in the DFW area. She was responsible for submitting player profiles that went out to college coaches at tournaments and events. From 2022 to present, she continued on coaching with Higher Goals as the organization joined the Select 40 circuit, featuring the top 40 independent programs in the nation. In 2023, she began coaching middle school basketball for Trinity Christian Academy in Addison.

Currently, she still coaches for both Higher Goals and Trinity Christian Academy, remains a skill development trainer and works as an administrative assistant for a physical rehabilitation center in Garland. She is a player’s coach and prides herself on building player’s confidence. She loves the game and refuses to take the game of basketball for granted.
