Coach Russ is originally from Temple City/Pasedena, California. He fell in love with basketball at a very young age and garnered that love for the game into a collegiate scholarship. He played college basketball at Merritt College where he was one of the best shooters in his conference. He’s known as “The Shot Doctor” and is one of the top skills trainers in the DFW Metroplex. He’s trained all level of players from beginners to professionals and always focuses on the small details.
He has over 20 years of youth basketball coaching experience and has been with HG for 10 plus years. He’s coached some of HG’s most successful teams, winning numerous local and regional championships and making noise at the National Level. Coach Russ has coached boys and girls, from grassroots level to High School. He’s known for his innovative offensive mind. He believes in empowering his players and having player led teams.
Coach Russ’ biggest triumph is his kids. He has two daughters and one son and they are all super successful athletes. His daughter Mia grew up with and played for HG for several years before playing at New Orleans and Texas A&M Commerce on full ride scholarships. His daguther Kyla also played for HG during her elementary and middle school years and went on to also earn Division 1 Scholarships to SFA & UNT. His only son, Jordan, is currently a 4 star recruit in football and nationally ranked. He holds offers from some of the biggest programs in the Country.
Russ loves working with all players. He says “I’m a teacher at heart and coaching is an extension of teaching, so it brings me great joy.”
