Josh is originally from the Midwest, but he moved to Mesquite, TX at a very early age.  He went on to play high school basketball at Mesquite HS,  where he was a four-year varsity player. Josh was a very versatile player, playing both on the perimeter and inside. He played AAU for Blazers and Team Ft. Worth and played with and against several future NBA players.

Josh had a stellar high school career and was awarded with a full scholarship to The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). He played at UALR for 4 years and had a great experience.  Little Rock brought a lot of hard work, dedication, and life lessons.   Josh graduated from The University of Arkansas at Little Rock with degrees in Small Business Entrepreneurship and Marketing.

Josh then transferred his passion from playing the game to teaching the game and started to work in the youth basketball realm. Basketball was a family affair as Josh also had two sisters that played collegiately. He teamed up with them to start Sparks Basketball, which was well known club in the DFW Area. The Sparks had a great reputation for not only teaching the game, but also life skills. The club was geared towards young women and focused on instilling confidence within each player. The Sparks kept their club active from 2005 to 2013 and helped countless young ladies achieve their dream of playing at the next level.

The next chapter for Coach Josh was also in the youth basketball space. He teamed up with well known basketball figure Adrian Mercado to co-lead the direction of Under The Lights Basketball (

UTLB) & Sky Diggs Elite. The club flourished from 2015 to 2021, helping young women grow in the game of basketball and life. The club also helped numerous players get an opportunity to play at the next level.

Josh JacobsJosh has been a leading figure in youth basketball in DFW for two decades and is highly respected as a bright basketball mind. He is a thinker and sees the game in a different light than most, bringing innovative approaches and concepts. Coach Josh helps to lead HG’s Select 40 Teams and will continue to grow the game like he has for so long.

Coach Josh works in the Financial Services Industry and has been in that sector for 19 years. He holds an MBA in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University.
